Winter Solstice

Well the downward spiral of days getting shorter has come to an end. It is finally winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. From here on out every day will be longer until before we know it spring and summer will be here. I have always found something optimistic about the solstice. Itís like it has gotten as bad as it will get and from here on it will get better. The weather, of course, doesnít cooperate with this idea. It just keeps getting colder and worse until the calendar says it is time to begin improving. Of course where you are seems to make a big difference. Daytime highs in the 40ís and 50ís are a far cry from what I left behind. But having felt temperatures in the 70ís just last week makes even that feel cold. I guess I wonít be satisfied until I am sipping a cool drink under an island palm tree watching Hi Flite swing at her anchor. Oh well, tomorrow will be another day and a longer one at that.

Back from the trip

Well, I am back. The trip went well, it just took longer then we expected. Thatís life with a sailboat, donít make plans too far out. I have some housecleaning to do on the website and get caught up on e-mails then I will write up the high points of the trip and add them to the ďstoriesĒ page.

Ready to go to Miami

Well, we head out on Monday morning. The forecast if not very good Ė contrary winds, high seas, rain and cold temperatures. The plan is to take the ICW until the fronts move through then jump out and sail offshore to Miami. As I mentioned before I will be serving as crew on a 35í Catalina that is being delivered to the new owner. So far I have packed way more then I will ever need. I guess I am taking the layering idea to heart. I am not sure I will be able to move with all the layers I am planning but I intend to stay dry and warm.

I will not have internet service while on the trip so I wonít be able to add any updates until I return. Iíll try to have interesting stories to tell.
